Plan 06 / Box rows

Each device is a numbered box, and the register has to be somebody's job.

A deposit room works because every box carries a number, a holder, and a note of when it was last opened. Almost no small firm can say that about its laptops. Four lines here turn the fleet into something countable, current and reachable.

Updating is tedious, and it is most of the answer

Break ins we get called in to clean up lean, overwhelmingly, on a hole that already had a published remedy. Nothing exotic. A machine that never updated because the task belonged to nobody. N-sight makes it somebody's job. System updates plus third party updates, run against a timetable, and afterwards a report naming what took and what would not.

The same agent carries watching and remote work, so a dying disk is spotted before it dies and most repairs happen without a journey. Name filtering travels on it as well, which is why this needs no equipment and stays with a laptop that leaves the postcode.

Apple and mobile, addressed instead of politely skipped

Mac fleets in small firms are usually unmanaged, because the machines seem fine and nobody wants to be the person who locked them down. Addigy manages them without making them irritating: enrollment, configuration, encryption state, staged updates, delivery of software.

Handsets are further behind again, since they carry the same post as the laptops and almost nobody inspects them. Zimperium runs on the phone, examining the network it joined, the condition of the device, and what has been installed on it, and it carries on doing so with no console anywhere within range.

Remote Monitoring and Management

per managed device
Bolted to N-able N-sight: inventory, updates, scripts, remote hands

A register of what exists, plus the levers that keep it current. Updates on a timetable, faults spotted before anybody reports them, and a route in that avoids asking a user to read an error message aloud.

  • Updates for the operating system, updates for third party software, then a report on what took.
  • Watchers on disks, services and backup jobs, wired straight through to our engineers.
  • Remote sessions and scripted repairs, which keeps the majority of faults off the road.

Web and DNS Filtering

per managed device
Bolted to N-able N-sight filtering, riding the agent already installed

Lookups get judged before a connection opens, by way of the agent already resident on the machine. Nothing to rack, nothing to re-route, and the rule travels with a laptop the moment it walks past reception.

  • Whole categories declined at lookup, indoors and on somebody's home broadband.
  • Destinations already known to be hostile never reach the browser in the first place.
  • Exceptions get raised and applied without waiting for a change window to open.

Apple Fleet Management

per Apple device
Bolted to Addigy, for Apple hardware that nobody has been managing

Apple kit brought into the same discipline as everything else you own. Enrollment, configuration, encryption state, and delivery of software, all driven from policy, in place of touring the office with an administrator password.

  • New hardware enrolls itself wherever Apple Business Manager is already set up.
  • Configuration, restrictions and disk encryption arrive from policy rather than from a visit.
  • Updates staged and reported, so the fleet stops drifting away from itself.

Mobile Threat Defense

per mobile device
Bolted to Zimperium, executing on the handset

Judgement running on the phone that reads your mail. The work is done on the device, meaning a hostile network or a doctored application gets caught in the moment and not deduced from a log a week later.

  • Network, device and application checks running locally, on iOS and on Android.
  • Warnings surface on the handset, and reach our desk when they deserve to.
  • It carries on working with no route back to any management server at all.

Honest scope

The edge of this room

This room is a register and a handful of levers. By itself this is no security product, and naming what it leaves untouched serves you better than implying otherwise.

  • The register knows only what was entered. Unregistered devices go unpatched and unfiltered. Kit acquired around the process is a governance failure well before it turns into a technical one.
  • Filtering declines, it does not open. Name and web filtering turns destinations down. It does not decrypt, and it sees nothing at all inside a permitted session.
  • Managing a Mac is not managing its user. Policy fixes configuration. Whoever holds the machine keeps their choices, and a few of those choices will be poor.
  • Handsets need the app installed on them. A personal phone collecting company post without the application present sits outside this line completely.
